5 Lessons I Have Learned from Owning a Small Business

11/30/2019

HELLO FRIENDS! Today is a very special day. It is Small Business Saturday!! I have always seen this on Instagram, and people being so supportive of these small businesses. I have always wanted to own a little business. I never expected God to bring my dream to reality as soon as he did. I was thinking that I would be out of school completely, but here I am a freshman in college. It be like that sometimes though. Also BIG ANNOUNCEMENT at the END of the post!

Owning a small business is very hard though. These are some things that people don’t usually tell you when starting a business:

  1. Make sure you plan out EVERYTHING before you go live. If you don’t then you may run into some problems. If you have a problem with an order, make sure you have a plan on how to handle those situations.
  2. You will not get a lot of business when you first start. This is just the reality of life. I get orders at least once a month, and it can be very disheartening. I love what I do, and it is hard when people don’t see what I see. I am so excited for the day when I get a bunch of orders, and I can put a little bit of happiness into someone’s life.
  3. Sometimes you will feel like giving up. I have felt like giving up so much, but God has reminded me that this business is a thing for a reason.
  4. You will have to make time for what you love to do. I have struggled with this one lately because finals are coming up, and I’m getting busier by the day. I am learning that I have to plan out my days by the minute in order for me to do the things I need to do. I am definitely improving my planning skills.
  5. Consistency is truly key! I am THE WORST at being consistent. It is a battle that I have been fighting for years, and I think I am slowly but surely winning it. Pushing your business is something that I have struggled to do, obviously, but it is something I am learning.
Here are the five lessons that I have learned/am learning. I love my job, and I love what I do. I am so happy that God has blessed me with the opportunity to make things I am proud of.

Now in honor of Small Business Saturday and the fact that Christmas is just around the corner, I am very pleased to announce that WE HAVE BUNDLES!!!! These are GREAT stocking stuffers/ Christmas gifts. You can order by going to the merch tab up above!

Seeking God at a Christian University

11/19/2019

Hello friends! Today I want to talk about something that I have been living in for the past few months. I have been on a journey of trying to find God in the midst of my situation, and being at a Christian school has kind of helped but it has also hindered my journey. Sometimes I find myself becoming bored with “Christianity” because sitting in The Message of the New Testament can become boring, and I know a lot of us students get tired of school. I’m not saying that I am tired of God, but I am tired of professors talking about God as if he isn’t in the room.

Now not all professors are like this and I am very thankful for that, but I also know/have a couple of professors like that. It can get really weird during some classes. My saving grace in this situation has been my morning Quiet Time. The first thing I do in the mornings when I get out of my bed is grab my Bible study things, heading out to the lounge, and sitting down on one of the couches and starting my quiet time. Right now I am finishing up a bible study from The Daily Grace Co. on hymns, and Knowing Jesus from Lifeway. They are both VERY good devotionals/bible studies. After I do those I usually journal for a few minutes. I write about how my day went and some thoughts I may have swirling around in my head.

I am also apart of Delight, which I have talked about in a previous blog post, and I am also apart of the Gathering. I love both my Delight and Gathering family SO MUCH! They help me draw closer to God by lifting me up and being in fellowship.

At my university, we have Tuesday and Thursday chapel service. Some weeks I think of it as something that is required, and it’s almost like a chore or something I have to check off my to-do list. Some weeks it doesn’t feel like that, but a lot of students feel like that every week. We have some really good chapel services, but I feel like we get lost in the sameness of it all. It’s always the same routine, and nothing has changed. This year we have had two African-American women come to speak in chapel, and apparently, that was a huge deal. They were phenomenal speakers, and they had a message that needed to be heard.

Seeking God in this kind of environment is very new to me and I have grown so much because of it. My university as a whole has a heart for God, but it’s the individual people that can discourage me or distract me, and that’s that.

The Not-So-Grand Semester Wind Down

11/6/2019

What’s up, guys? Today I come with a grand revelation, the semester is almost over. That’s crazy, right? In a couple of weeks, I’ll be going home for Thanksgiving break, and after that, it’s finals season. Right now I am writing from my floor. It is November 4th, and registration for classes next semester starts at midnight, so I’m staying up till midnight. I always thought that this would be more exciting, but it’s been super boring so far. I have had two cups of coffee and I am working/doing homework. Is this healthy? Probably not, but it’s what’s working for me right now.

This semester has gone by so so fast. It seems like yesterday I was moving to Cleveland TN, but here I am nearly three months into college, sitting on the floor in my dorm room, and typing this blog out. That’s just really weird to me.

In about two weeks I will be on Thanksgiving break. I’m not really sure what my plans are, but I hope they’re exciting. The day after we get back from Thanksgiving break is something we call Reading Day. All classes are canceled and it’s basically a day of studying before finals start. Then after finals week is over, I’m FREE!!!

Some things that I have learned as the semester is coming to a close are the following:
  1. You will majorly lose motivation towards the end, but the problem is that you can’t. Finals will come whether you like it or not, but it is YOUR choice how you want to finish off the semester. I have been struggling to stay motivated, but I am constantly reminding myself that I just have to keep pushing forward.
  2. Managing your time is super important now more than ever. I have my entire day is usually planned out the night before. I have discovered that planning my entire day hour-by-hour is essential to how much I get done.
  3. Keeping a clean room is very helpful! My room is kind of a wreck right now, and it is very distracting. We have something called room check every week, which helps me take care of my roommate, Carrie, and I’s room. I’m always trying to keep my room clean, but being a music major makes that very hard.
  4. Doing homework ahead of time is way better than rushing to get it done the night before. I have had my share of late nights writing a paper for my College Writing class or doing theory homework.

These are just a few things that I have learned. I have learned a lot this semester, and I think I have become a better person because of it.

That’s all I have for today! I hope you guys have an AWESOME week! I will write to you guys next week.

PS: I HAVE MERCH! GO ORDER SOME!
