How God Put Me in EVS

9/15/2019

Let me start off this post by saying, GOD IS SO SO GOOD!!! This whole situation was completely God’s doing. So grab a drink, relax, and enjoy.

One of the things I believe is that God speaks to us through dreams. This is biblically correct, and it is also a spiritual gift that has been passed down through my family. About a week after auditions, I started getting dreams. In these dreams, I was in EVS (Evangelistic Singers), which is a choir at Lee that mainly sings black gospel music. This honestly terrified me because growing up in a family that sang black gospel amazingly was VERY intimidating. I am very insecure about my voice when it comes to that genre of music.

I called my mom a couple of days I started having dreams to make sure I was right in my assumptions. We were on the same page, and she told me that I need to go talk to Dr. Gloria, who is the director of EVS. I was already planning on sitting in one of their rehearsals. Luckily there was an open rehearsal that night, so I went. I was reunited with my QUEEN, Dr. Gloria Scott-Richmond. She has known me since I was a little tot, and I love her a lot. I told her what happened and the situation, and she literally let me sit with the alto section and told me that I had an audition the next day. That night we rehearsed and I pretty much knew every song except two. It was a big confirmation moment for me.

The next day I auditioned in her office with some of the leaders in the group, and I GOT IN! Being in EVS has already challenged me, and I already feel like I’m a part of the family. I can’t wait for this new journey and to see all that God is going to do. That’s all for today! Talk to y’all later!!!!

First Time Being Sick at College

9/7/2019

I survived my second week of classes!!! (Barely, but I’m alive). I would like to tell you a little story about my first couple of weeks at Lee. If you know me then this story should not surprise you. So basically, I got super sick. The second or third day of classes I ventured to the health clinic WHICH BY THE WAY IS ON THE EDGE OF CAMPUS!!! I was very annoyed to be walking at 7:30 in the morning. The doctor at the clinic said I had tracheal bronchitis. I have bronchitis every other week I think. I have a weak immune system because of my heart condition, and I get sick at the drop of a hat.

I woke up the day before my Lee University Singers audition not able to talk AT ALL. I tried, but it felt like knives were stabbing my throat while at the same time it was feeling completely closed. I had to lightly whisper so that I could talk without hurting my throat. I drank some hot coffee (black coffee which I COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DESPISE) and I took a lot of DayQuil/NyQuil. I went on with my day feeling like death, and regretting getting out of bed, but it was the second day of classes and I wanted to make a good impression on my teachers. The day passed by rather quickly. After all of my classes were finished I ventured over to my new home, the music building. I went into a practice room to practice for my audition, but there was a tiny problem. I sounded like a dying horse, and it was SUPER bad. I was completely ready to embarrass myself! Now you’re probably wondering, “Noelle, why didn’t you cancel your audition?” Well good people of the interwebs, this semester is my cousin Cherish’s last semester. You can probably catch my drift. I wanted to be in it with her before she abandons me. :))))

I auditioned and sounded slightly better than a dying cow, but it was still bad. I obviously didn’t get in, but that turned out to be a good thing (that story will be in the next blog post). The days after I started getting stronger. I didn’t miss any classes except one, but that was because I was at the clinic. I survived and now I’m pretty much 100% better. God is SO SO GOOD!!! In my next post I will explain how I got into an ensemble because that is an AWESOME story of how God ordained and opened doors. Talk to you guys in the next post!

BYE!!
